With this particular tour as well, the CSM information package includes detailed hiking trail descriptions and maps, so guests are well-prepared for each day’s adventure. The outings recommended are easy to moderate hikes that will be enjoyed by everybody who has a love for the outdoors and enjoys hiking. The route focuses on the Rocky Mountain National Parks as well as Glacier and Mount Revelstoke National Parks and Wells Gray Provincial Park. Driving distances are kept at a minimum so there is lots of time for hiking the most rewarding trails.
Arrival in Calgary (20 km) - Welcome to Alberta! Arrival at Airport, pick up of rental vehicle and drive to your accommodation. Overnight is at the Sandman Hotel Airport.
Calgary – Waterton Park (270 km) - After a city walk in Calgary to see highlights like the Calgary Tower and Chinatown, drive south to Waterton National Park. Two nights at the Bayshore Inn.
Waterton Park (approx. 50 km) – Crypt Lake Trail - Experience one of the most stunning hikes in the Rockies (17.4 km; 690 m elevation gain). Includes a boat trip to the trailhead, waterfalls, and a mountain tunnel.
Going-to-the-Sun Road – Fernie (370 km) - Drive the famous Going-to-the-Sun Road through Glacier National Park (USA) before crossing back into Canada. Two nights at the Best Western Fernie Mountain Lodge.
Fernie and area - Explore the town or take a river-rafting tour. For hikers, the Fernie Ridge Walk is recommended for amazing views of the Rocky Mountain Trench.
Fernie – Fort Steele – Radium - Golden (326 km) - Visit the beautifully restored ghost town of Fort Steele. Continue to Radium Hot Springs and Golden. Two nights at Moberly Lodge.
Yoho National Park (~180 km) / Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls - Explore Emerald Lake (5.2 km circuit) and Takakkaw Falls. Optional hikes to Laughing Falls or Twin Falls offer higher elevation views.
Golden – Revelstoke (148 km) - Visit Rogers Pass and hike the Balu Pass Trail (10 km return; 800 m elevation gain) for spectacular views of glaciers and mountain ridges. Two nights at the Sandman Hotel Revelstoke.
Mount Revelstoke National Park – Eva Lake Trail - Hike to Eva Lake, a pretty alpine lake that is a perfect spot for lunch before heading back.
Revelstoke – Kamloops – Clearwater (345 km) - Travel via Salmon Arm and Kamloops to the gateway of Wells Gray Provincial Park. Two nights at the Best Western Gateway to the Falls.
Wells Gray Park (approx. 60 km) - Explore the park's iconic sights including the Ray Farm Trail and the South Rim Trail to the rim of Helmcken Falls.
Clearwater – Mount Robson – Jasper (395 km) - Stop at Mount Robson Park to hike the Berg Lake Trail as far as Kinney Lake or White Falls. Spend three nights at Becker’s Chalets in Jasper.
Maligne Lake (approx. 95 km) - Visit Maligne Canyon and Maligne Lake. Hike the Opal Hills Loop (8.2 km return) for stunning views and alpine wildflowers. Optional boat tour to Spirit Island.
Mt. Edith Cavell (approx. 50 km) - Hike the Cavell Meadows Trail (6 – 7 km return) for beautiful views of Angel Glacier.
Jasper – Icefields Parkway – Canmore (312 km) - Drive the Icefields Parkway, visiting Columbia Icefield and Peyto Lake. Hike Parker Ridge Trail for views of the Saskatchewan Glacier. Two nights at Grande Rockies Resort.
Banff/Lake Louise (~140 km) / Plain of Six Glaciers Trail - Hike the spectacular Plain of Six Glaciers Trail (5.3 km one way) at Lake Louise. Visit nearby Lake Moraine before returning to Canmore.
Canmore - Calgary (110 km) - Drive back to Calgary Airport and board your flight home. Total mileage: approx. 2,900 km.
